Unilever

An internal directory tool built for the global company to help employees find qualified vendors

Global consumer goods company Unilever was looking for a design and development partner to rebuild their existing “Black Book,” a tool for internal employees that serves as a Rolodex of freelancers and agencies. The existing tool was both difficult to use and difficult to manage.

We began our discovery process diving into beloved online talent directories like WorkingNotWorking, Toptal, and others. In addition to designing the user experience, we also strategized about the most lightweight, efficient way to fulfill all the functionality needs leveraging open source WordPress tools (with minimal plugin bloat). The final site’s carefully crafted infrastructure leverages native WordPress user roles and the power of Advanced Custom Fields Pro’s forms to create a robust directory ecosystem with different, nuanced role permissions for Unilever employees and external vendors.
