Document Journal

An ongoing partnership with the independent culture, arts, and fashion online magazine

Editor-in-chief Nick Vogelson and digital director Hannah Ongley approached us in search of a small, NYC based studio to serve as an ongoing partner for their design and development needs. They were specifically looking for a shop well-versed in typographic design and art direction, responsive web design, and WordPress.

To kick off the relationship, our first order of business was to “speed things up.” When we began our work, visitors were experiencing 10+ second page load times on mobile, and 8+ seconds on desktop. We assisted the Document Journal team in a migration to our recommended hosting partner WP Engine, and completed a comprehensive site audit recommending fixes. The site now loads in under 2 seconds. As part of our ongoing relationship, we continue to collaborate with in-house art directors and content editors to help the team design and implement ad units and sponsorships, create solutions to improve site recirculation, and build new compelling features.
