National Civic League

A new site for the Denver based, nonpartisan, non-profit organization seeking to advance civic engagement to create equitable and thriving communities

National Civic League homepage

The National Civic League was looking to redesign their website to represent their rich, 123-year history and steadfast commitment to civic engagement. They had a large amount of content and a variety of technical features that the new site needed to support (memberships, resource downloads, Google Maps integration, Salesforce, and Constant Contact integrations).

An updated, modern visual identity for the site

In our early discovery sessions, we learned about the National Civic League’s rich, 123-year history and steadfast commitment to civic engagement. The new site design displays a modern visual identity featuring a nontraditional red, white, and blue color palette to evoke patriotism but avoid feeling overly Americana. Given the organization’s emphasis on real communities, we chose a realistic, photojournalism style for photography to convey authenticity. The resources throughout the site use a card-based design that allows users to easily parse information.

from the client Studio Simpatico is just that -- likable and easy to get along with! The ease of working with this team made our intense website redesign a fun and rewarding process. The team's "getting to know you" approach was extremely unique and welcomed compared to other projects I work on. They helped us refine our goals, and the time they spent with us, getting to know about our desired image really enhanced the project from start to finish.

Leveraging the S2Member framework for sophisticated membership purchasing and gated content

The League offers an assortment of membership options for government employees, nonprofit organizations, and individuals with a variety of on- and off-line benefits. We built the site using the S2Member plugin framework to allow members to login to the site. S2Member allowed us to surface different content depending on the logged in member’s memberships status; for example, certain types of members have the ability to download resources for free.

A dynamic Google Maps search to allow users to browse past recipients of the All-America City Award

Since 1949, the National Civic League has awarded the All-America City Award to communities that “leverage civic engagement, collaboration, inclusiveness and innovation to successfully address local issues.” The AAC section of the site features a rich, interactive experience that allows visitors to browse and filter past winners by year, state, and number of wins.

Integration with Salesforce and Constant Contact to streamline internal operations

A top priority of the new site was that it would serve as a tool for the League to establish strong relationships with their visitors and patrons. To give their small (but mighty) in-house team better tools for managing leads and maintaining strong relationships with their constituents, we integrated the forms (built with Gravity Forms) sitewide with Salesforce (their customer relationship management software) and Constant Contact (their e-mail newsletter management system).

from the client We are thrilled with the final product -- not just the look, but the smartness of the new site that will not only help us serve our clients much better, but will hopefully create stronger communities across the country.
